SICSS-ODISSEI Summer School Open For Applications

After its successful first run last summer, ODISSEI will host its second Summer Institute in Computational Social Science in the Netherlands. The purpose is to bring together PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career researchers interested in computational social science.

SICSS-ODISSEI is unique within the SICSS framework in focusing primarily on the analysis of administrative data. The Summer Institute is for both social scientists and data scientists.

The Summer Institutes in Computational Social Science (SICSS) were created to provide free training to the next generation of researchers at the intersection of social science and data science — and to incubate cutting-edge research across disciplinary boundaries. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and fields of study, especially applicants from groups currently under-represented in computational social science.

Costs
Accepted participants can participate in this programme for free. Lunch will be provided, and ODISSEI will host some social events during the course. Participants will need to cover all travel costs themselves. However, ODISSEI aims to provide accommodation to those who live more than 30 minutes away from campus. Travel time will be calculated via 9292ov.nl. The address of the Erasmus campus is Burgemeester Oudlaan 50, 3062 PA Rotterdam. Accommodation will be provided from Monday to Friday (4 nights each week). Those who do not live in the Netherlands can additionally request accommodation for the weekend of 24-25 June.

Curriculum
The course will be an accredited graduate school course by the Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities (EGSH) covering 5 ECTS. The curriculum of the summer school will be supported by ODISSEI partner organizations such as SURF (the Netherlands High Performance Computing Center), the Netherlands eScience Center, and the Dutch Statistical Office (CBS), including free access to the infrastructure during and three months after the summer school for participants.

Application
In order to be guaranteed consideration, applicants must submit a CV and a short statement of motivation (max 300 words) and fill in their details in the Google form on the application page. All application materials must be submitted no later than February 28, 2023 through the Google form that can be found on the SICSS-ODISSEI website. We will notify applicants solely through e-mail by March 15, 2023, and will ask participants to confirm their participation very soon thereafter.

More information about the programme and application conditions can be found on the SICSS-ODISSEI website.
