Welcome to the first Tech & Data Day!

The combination of Tech & Data is essential in digitally informed humanities research. With our current Heritage Data Research projects in mind, CLARIAH is now organizing the first Tech & Data Day on Thursday 29 June. Everyone is welcome to join!

Objectives

Combining Tech and Data serves the following objectives of CLARIAH: 1. Supporting data research with the tech developed by and through CLARIAH; 2. Connecting researchers that are behind the data projects and/or collections, and the ones that work in technology and/or infrastructure-oriented projects.

With this Tech & Data Day we hope to forge new contacts resulting in fruitful collaborations. This will enable participants to explore what they can do for each other and how one side of the research spectrum can enrich the other.

Preliminary program

Our Tech & Data Day will begin and conclude with a plenary session. To kick off the day, a keynote (TBA) will be given by an expert who is at the intersection between tech and data. After the parallel sessions, the day will be concluded with a panel discussion hosted by Roeland Ordelman (CTO at CLARIAH) and Jetze Touber (CDO at CLARIAH). They will engage in a closing conversation with various tech & data experts.

During the interactive part of the day, an info market is set up with posters and demos concentrated around important themes. For Tech, the central themes are Annotation (manual and automatic annotation within CLARIAH); Data Stories (data analysis and storytelling within CLARIAH); and Tools (e.g. tool repositories, linguistic tools and virtual research environments).

For Data, themes are Data Enrichment and Data Curation. The latter includes our new Heritage Data Research Projects (TW-NL, PARAWARD and FAIR Photos). Furthermore, providers of large digital infrastructures such as SURF, eScience Center, DANS and KNAW Humanities Cluster will be present. They will be available for answering all kinds of questions regarding both data and tooling.

Naturally, participants can also expect coffee and tea breaks, an extensive lunch and a get-together with drinks and bites to conclude the day.
