I am a PhD candidate in the Language and Computation group of the ILLC, under the supervision of Prof. Khalil Sima'an. Besides, I am also scientific programmer in the Computational Lexicology & Terminology Lab at the VU.

My PhD research deals with the applicability of general linguistic notions for translation modelling in Statistical Machine Translation. In other words, I investigate whether bilingual data can be described using notions that pertain to monolingual data; what are these notions, to what extent are they cross-linguistically valid, and (how) can one exploit them to improve translation models?
